Dr. William Cheek is an acclaimed public speaker and classroom lecturer who has won more than twenty-five teaching awards from both undergraduate and graduate students. With his wife Aimee Lee, he wrote a prize-winning biography of a nineteenth-century black civil rights leader, John Mercer Langston. Dr. Cheek is a retired Professor of History at San Diego State University where he taught from 1968 until 2004. He has also taught at Hollins College, the University of Virginia, the University of Arkansas, as a visiting professor in Montreal, Aix-en-Provence, and Paris, the last under a Fulbright Grant.
